3 Things for Fastpitch Parents to Remember

September 7th, 2008 by Stacie | Print

Just of couple of friendly reminders, from one parent to another.

1. Your child is NOT you. Therefore, s/he will have different strengths and weaknesses than you have/had as an athlete and as a human being. Your child’s strengths and weaknesses will also be different from her sibling’s. Help your child, as an individual, excel in her strengths and continue to improve in her weaker areas.

2. Your attitude & behavior “trickles down” to your child. Demonstrate sportsmanship in your actions & words.  If you have a bad attitude and disrespect team members, chances are your child will too.  That isn’t a good situation for anyone.

3. It’s a GAME – it’s supposed to be fun!  I’m sure there are times where, if you could just step back and see yourself from an objective position, you’d realize how “over the top” you get from time to time.  Remember, kids play this game because they love it, because it’s fun…not because they *may* get a college scholarship one or or because they *may* be on some all-star team in a few years.
